Vice President of OCA vows to support Cambodia in organising the 2029 Asian Youth Games

Dr. Tang Gordon, Vice President of Olympic Council for Asia (OCA), has pledged to contribute to the organisation of the 2029 Asian Youth Games, which will be hosted by Cambodia, through an initiative to bring more important sporting events for sports in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The commitment of the Vice President of the OCA came on the occasion of the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Dr. Hun Manet, allowing him to pay a courtesy call on the morning of April 23.

During the meeting, Tang Gordon highlighted his contribution to the development of sports, both financially and technically, especially for Cambodian athletes in the fields of sailing and gymnastics, as well as sending Cambodian athletes to train in China.

In addition, he mentioned the cooperation with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia in organising the Asian Mixed Martial Arts (AMMA) event. This Asian MMA event is the second MMA Championship competition scheduled to be held in Cambodia in July 2024.

The Vice President of the OCA also informed the Premier about his continued contribution to support the organisation of the 2029 Asian Youth Games, which Cambodia will host through initiatives to bring more important sporting events to the Cambodian competition programme in order to strengthen the capacity of Cambodian athletes towards the organisation of the 2029 Asian Youth Games.

At the same time, he is confident that under the leadership of Primer Hun Manet, sports in Cambodia will grow even more and athletes will win more medals from major international sports events for Cambodia.

In response, the Prime Minister thanked and appreciated his contribution to the support and development of sports in Cambodia, including mixed martial arts.

The premier also stressed that the relevant institutions of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the private sector will be ready to coordinate and cooperate in organising this mixed martial arts event with the Olympic Council of Asia. Regarding the organisation of the 2029 Asian Youth Games, he said that the Royal Government has prepared enough to host the Asian Youth Games, based on the experience that Cambodia has successfully organised the 32th SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in 2023.

Dr. Hun Manet emphasized the importance of organizing international sports events in Cambodia, stating that they not only strengthen solidarity and friendship but also shows foreigners a clearer understanding of Cambodia, such as by attracting tourists to visit Cambodia. At the same time, he also supported and encouraged the organisation of important international sports events in Cambodia.

He also encouraged Tang Gordon to continue to support the development of sports in Cambodia, especially the training programme of Cambodian athletes in China to strengthen their ability to compete in the 2029 Asian Youth Games.
