In 2018 Bulgarians abroad sent over 2 billion euro to Bulgaria

Last year Bulgarians living abroad sent to this country the record more than 2.13 billion euro, World Bank data show.

That is 3.8 percent of the GDP of Bulgaria. This figure does not include the cash brought into the country.

The money taken out of Bulgaria by foreign nationals working in this country went up by 11 percent in 2018, reaching USD 221 million, or 0.3 percent of the country’s GDP.

Data show that transfers through official channels remain expensive, the average fee charged for USD 200 in 2019 being 7 percent. Bank transfers are the most expensive – 11 percent, followed by postal money transfers – 7 percent.
