AS forefathers of former senator Santanina Rasul sailed out of the Bay of Bengal into the promised land of Mindanao, there was perhaps this early realization that their dreams of a new life in the new land would only be possible through industry, grit and this requisite — good education. I am using "perhaps" because I don't really know their migration story, but it is a fact that the family did well in Mindanao. And in the 8th Congress, the first Congress after martial law and where Mrs. Rasul was an esteemed member, a big part of her legislative work was devoted to the education sector.
